This session will equip teachers with resources providing students insights to better assess past and current conflicts reported in the media. International humanitarian law (IHL) is a set of universal rules which place basic limits on how war is waged. They protect people who are not fighting, like civilians, and people who can no longer fight, such as sick and wounded soldiers or those that surrender. Knowledge of IHL helps the American public understand issues related to international affairs and conflict. American Red Cross instructors will offer an introduction to IHL, followed by information about Red Cross IHL youth programs and IHL resources for educators.
